A tattoo choice should never
be a snap impulse decision. If you’ve ever accompanied someone while
they tried to pick out a tattoo at a parlor in the conventional way,
you were in for a long, long wait.
The process of searching for
a tattoo from your home computer and perusing the design at your
leisure is a vast improvement over standing at a counter and flipping
through the parlor (or artist’s) design book. Trying to choose a
design, while the tattoo artist or a member of the parlor staff is
looming over you waiting for you to make your decision, is not a happy
experience. They may not intend to rush you, but you feel rushed
anyway.
Tattoo databases offer a good
alternative to find the design that fits your personality, and you can
take as much time as you need. We did a detailed analysis of Chopper
Tattoo; our results and our conclusions follow.
The website:
The webpage is very simple.
There really is not much information to be gained there. A list of the
top tattoo design categories and a few color pictures of tattoos. Any
link you click leads to the sign up page. There is a search box with
customizing filters. But again, any search gives you some random
results with *Members Only* plastered across them. You must be a member
to look at anything.
There are three tiers of
membership:
- One month for $19.95
- Two months for $24.95
- Lifetime membership for
$34.44
- Tattoo Lettering—For
$4.99, this provides you a link to a website with many fonts to play
with. This kind of information is available all over the web, however.
The two month and the
lifetime memberships come with three bonuses:
- Games—When you reach the
overload point, and every design begins to look the same, there are 8
games to play while you are taking a break.
- Music Downloads—You get
free access to the MP3Suite website, which offers free legal music and
movie downloads.
- Inked Magazine
What will you find inside?
Inside the site you find the
design gallery, member’s gallery, studio directory, and discussion
forum.
The Design Gallery organizes the tattoos into over 38 categories and
sub categories. The database grows daily because Chopper Tattoo has a
program that allows tattoo artists, after a review process, to create
their own page within the community to showcase their designs. After
you make a choice, you enlarge the design and then print it out to take
with you to the tattoo parlor.
If you need help finding a
tattoo parlor, the site also provides a tattoo parlor database resource
to assist its members in locating a safe, reputable tattoo parlor in
their area.
Closing thoughts:
Chopper Tattoo offers a
logical alternative to locating a design for your tattoo art by giving
you many designs in the same place. It saves you time and has flexible
plans to appeal to anyone. If you only want one tattoo the basic
membership is just right for you. If you have a serious tattoo
addiction, then the lifetime membership will give you more choices than
you have room to fit on your body.
The numbers and the products
listed here are accurate at the time of writing. Of course, prices and
bonuses change. The websites grow and change too.
